About Career Pathfinders | Career Pathfinders History | Success of Career Pathfinders

Career Pathfinders is a home based recruitment agency specialising in the hospitality, hotel and lodge industry, and is run by Jerry and Nicki Joyce who both have years of expeience in the hotel and lodge industry.

Jerry & Nicki, who operate Career Pathfinders, have diverse areas of background and abilities.

Jerry is British, and Nicki is Dutch ; although coincidentally they both came to Africa at around the same time, with their respective parents, in the early 1970’s. Jerry attended boarding-school in what was then Rhodesia, followed by his hotel management training at The Boulevard Hotel in Pretoria ; while Nicki completed her high-schooling in Pretoria, then studied Speech Therapy at Pretoria University. She also undertook a diploma course in Computer Programming, and several years later studied Nature Conservation, whilst simultaneously employed as a Field Guide in Kwa Zulu Natal.
Having entered full-time into the hotel industry, Jerry & Nicki met some years later at a hotel in Pietermaritzburg where they both were employed ; and where they got married.

Since Pietermaritzburg, they have been in the Drakensburg, Pretoria and Botswana, before landing up in Johannesburg, which was where they took the decision in 1997 to start Career Pathfinders. Two years later, they relocated to White River, and three years following that move, they bought a farm in 2003 just outside of White River, where they still reside and operate the business.

Nicki has a great passion for conservation, animals and photography – especially wildlife photography. To this end, taking advantage of the Kruger National Park being so close to home, Jerry & Nicki regularly take themselves into the park.

Jerry enjoys reading and writing, and has enjoyed having a book written by him, entitled Thus Circle The Vultures, published by Pegasus Publishing, in the UK. Thus Circle The Vultures is available to purchase at: www.loot.co.za and www.amazon.com .

Extract from the novel :- "Yes, Sally. These men are like vultures," opined Stewart. "Vultures circle incessantly, tenaciously, seeking easy pickings; swooping fast, before anything else gets a chance. Vultures are scavengers, just as these men are. Look how they swooped upon your patch of land; for thus circle the vultures.”

A well written, all-encompassing narrative set in the Orange Free State, South Africa from the 1960s. Life was harsh for black people; racial harmony was taboo. Government gave remote tribal trust-lands to the Matanatwini people, and despite attempts to convince the world of their generosity, they never disclosed that the area was infertile wasteland, unwanted by the whites. When Charles Herries inadvertently entered the setting, the hopelessness and impoverishment of the Matanatwini horrified him. Therefore, determined to help, Charles initiates an extraordinary turnaround and the land becomes prosperous; that is, until incorrigible businessmen, supported by government officials, became enraged at witnessing black people being successful.

But Charles and the Matanatwini were not ready to give up all they had struggled and strived towards that easily…

Readers will enjoy fast-paced twists, with nail-biting crescendos throughout, drawing one profoundly into the thought-provoking South Africa at that time, prompting readers to keep turning the pages to discover what happens next.
